If you’ve been down near Union Station anytime within the last few months, it’s hard to miss the scaffolding. There is a TON of work going on at 17th and Wynkoop Streets, but with the notable exception of the massive scaffolding collection, a lot of the work remains hidden inside. 

 

 

The new 112-room hotel was christened Wednesday as The Crawford Hotel, property owner Sage Hospitality announced. The hotel is named in honor of Dana Crawford, a historic preservationist and developer.  The hotel will fill the upper floors of the north and south wings of the station when the building opens July 2014.

The Crawford Hotel's 112 uniquely decorated guest rooms will reflect the different eras of the building's history. The overall hotel design was created by JG Johnson Architects and Tryba Architects. The property will feature art specifically curated from local Colorado artists by Denver company NINE dot ARTS as part of the project's local art program.

There will be three particular types of rooms in the building:

• “Pullman” rooms will be reminiscent of — but larger than — the old luxury sleeping cars on Pullman trains and will be located on the hotel’s west side.

• “Classic” rooms in the wings surrounding the Great Hall will have high ceilings and large windows.

• And “Loft” rooms in the building’s old attic area will feature exposed wood timbers and high vaulted ceilings.

Although room rates haven't been set yet, the cost of a night's stay will probably start at $250.
